General information<\/h2>\n

The REACT<\/strong> course is a five-week training programme on conflict prevention and peacebuilding intended for professionals interested in being deployed in peace operations and contribute to the global efforts to build international peace and security.<\/p>\n

Background<\/h2>\n

REACT<\/strong> was created in 2003 with the aim of preparing professionals of different backgrounds, interested in joining the experts pool \u201cExpert Teams for Rapid Assistance and Cooperation\u201d of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).<\/p>\n

Over time, the content of the course has been expanded to include all aspects of conflict prevention and peacebuilding and all contexts in which peace operations take place.<\/p>\n

REACT<\/strong> is the only training course of its kind that takes place in Spain. Since 2003, 23 editions have been taken place and over 500 students have benefit from it. Next edition will take place in May and June 2019.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/h2>\n

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and analyze the main threats to international peace and security, the contexts in which armed conflicts arise, their key actors and the impact of conflict on civilians.<\/p>\n

To build participants’ capabilities in prevention, management and resolution of conflicts as well as protection of civilians in armed conflicts.<\/p>\n

To strengthen the capacity and confidence of participants to deal effectively with risk-associated and emergency\/critical situations while deployed in hostile environments abroad.<\/p>\n

What is REACT?<\/h2>\n

REACT<\/strong> is a <\/span>5-week intensive training<\/b> program <\/span>specializing in peace missions and conflict prevention<\/b>, designed for professionals interested in <\/span>human rights, conflict analysis, civilian protection, and peacebuilding<\/b>, especially those who wish to work or are already working in international organizations or in humanitarian and development contexts.<\/span><\/p>\n

International Foundation and Institutional Framework<\/span><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0REACT course (Rapid Expert Assistance and Cooperation Teams)<\/strong>\u00a0originated from an OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe)<\/strong><\/a> initiative aimed at creating civilian teams trained for rapid deployment in conflict prevention, crisis management, and post-conflict rehabilitation in 1999, during the Istanbul Summit<\/strong>. The EU Council and the OSCE incorporated this mechanism as part of European security and defense commitments, especially following the 1999 Helsinki European Council. Since 2003<\/strong>, Helsinki Espa\u00f1a, through the IUCPM, has been running this course to train professionals with the skills needed to participate in international missions of the OSCE, the UN, the EU, and international NGOs.<\/p>\n
