On 14 October, Helsinki Espa\u00f1a<\/strong> held the conference \u201cChallenges and Threats to International Security 2025\u201d<\/strong> at the Spanish Centre for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN)<\/strong>, thanks to the support of the Spanish Ministry of Defence<\/strong> and in collaboration with CESEDEN<\/strong>. The event served as a space for analysis, dialogue, and reflection<\/strong> on the key challenges facing global and national security in an increasingly complex geopolitical context.<\/p>\n

The conference brought together over one hundred participants<\/strong>, including academics, students, and professionals from the fields of security and defence. Its main objective was to engage society\u2014particularly younger generations\u2014in understanding and addressing contemporary security challenges<\/strong>, including disinformation and ethical leadership in times of uncertainty.<\/p>\n

These annual conferences, organised by Helsinki Espa\u00f1a, aim to foster critical thinking and multidisciplinary discussion<\/strong> around the global threats of the 21st century. In a world shaped by geopolitical crises, regional conflicts, cyber threats, and environmental challenges, promoting joint reflection among the academic, military, and civil sectors is essential to building a more informed, resilient, and human approach to international security.<\/p>\n

Key Speakers and Presentations<\/h4>\n

The session opened with remarks from Colonel Jos\u00e9 Luis Calvo Albero<\/strong> (CESEDEN) and Ms. Mar\u00eda Ja\u00e9n<\/strong> (Helsinki Espa\u00f1a), who highlighted the human dimension of security and the importance of institutional cooperation to strengthen social resilience.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Dr. Gracia Abad Quintanal<\/strong> (Universidad Nebrija) provided an insightful overview of international tensions and conflicts<\/strong>, addressing lesser-known crises and the rise of hybrid warfare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Colonel Juan C. Castilla<\/strong> (CESEDEN) presented the Spanish perspective on international conflicts<\/strong>, emphasising Spain\u2019s role and responsibility as a member of NATO<\/strong> and the European Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Ms. Carmen Jord\u00e1 Sanz<\/strong> (Universidad Camilo Jos\u00e9 Cela) discussed the impact of disinformation on democracies<\/strong>, stressing the need for a critical and ethical approach to information control and dissemination.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Rojas Caja<\/strong> (CESEDEN) explored the theme of leadership in times of uncertainty<\/strong>, underscoring the relevance of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills<\/strong> as essential tools for effective leadership in crisis situations.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Mr. Christian Ric\u00f3s Sevilla<\/strong>, an expert on radicalisation and terrorism, examined terrorism and extremism<\/strong>, challenging the myth of a \u201cterrorist personality\u201d and analysing the religious symbolism and motivations underpinning radical movements.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd39 Finally, Mr. Jos\u00e9 Antonio \u00c1lvarez Crespo<\/strong> and Mr. Ricardo Gonz\u00e1lez Ruiz<\/strong>, directors of the project Consenso Victoria<\/strong>, underlined the importance of coordination among security forces<\/strong> and the need for public training<\/strong> to respond effectively to emergencies. The event concluded with the screening of the documentary \u201cConsenso Victoria\u201d<\/em>, which showcased best practices in the management of critical incidents.<\/p>\n
