This initiative will travel to several Spanish universities with the aim of bringing young people closer to the analysis of today\u2019s international landscape and the major challenges in global security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme, supported by the <strong>Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Uni\u00f3n Europea y Cooperaci\u00f3n<\/strong> (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain), will be held in universities across Valencia, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Bilbao and Madrid, fostering dialogue between experts and students on the emerging geopolitical order and the role of youth in building more resilient societies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening Session in Madrid<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inaugural session brought together 40 students eager to better understand the current state of international relations and global security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening remarks were delivered by Alfonso L\u00f3pez de la Osa Escribano, Dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations at <strong>Universidad Nebrija<\/strong>, and Mar\u00eda Ja\u00e9n, President of <strong>Helsinki Espa\u00f1a<\/strong>, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces for critical reflection among younger generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Addressing the New Global Order<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel featured:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mr. Fernando Nogales \u00c1lvarez, Senior Advisor on Cybersecurity and Hybrid Threats at the <strong>Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Uni\u00f3n Europea y Cooperaci\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colonel Jos\u00e9 Luis Calvo Albero, Director of the Coordination and Studies Division at the <strong>Ministerio de Defensa <\/strong>(Ministry of Defence of Spain).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prof. Dr. Carlos L\u00f3pez G\u00f3mez, Professor in the Department of International Relations at <strong>Universidad Nebrija<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mr. Christian Ric\u00f3s Sevilla, expert in radicalisation and terrorism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/helsinkiespana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Foto-interior-Noticia-Web.-Jornadas-Juventud-y-Seguridad-Global-1-Helsinki-Espana.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34544\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helsinkiespana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Foto-interior-Noticia-Web.-Jornadas-Juventud-y-Seguridad-Global-1-Helsinki-Espana.jpg 650w, https:\/\/helsinkiespana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Foto-interior-Noticia-Web.-Jornadas-Juventud-y-Seguridad-Global-1-Helsinki-Espana-480x360.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 650px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Discussions focused on the geopolitical role of major powers such as the United States, China and Russia, as well as the central role of the United States in global security and Europe\u2019s strategic dependencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speakers also analysed the European Common Security and Defence Policy, the absence of a clearly defined leadership within Europe, the role of <strong>NATO<\/strong>, and the potential development of a European security force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another key topic was the impact of emerging technologies on modern warfare, including satellite systems such as Starlink, the use of drones, artificial intelligence, and innovative funding mechanisms such as crowdfunding, all of which are reshaping conflict dynamics and global power balances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The session also referenced the <strong>Munich Security Conference<\/strong>, which opens today with the \u201cnew world order\u201d at the centre of debate. Around 70 heads of state and government and more than 140 ministers are expected to attend, including China\u2019s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference concluded with a discussion on <strong>terrorism, radicalisation and the psychology of terror<\/strong>, addressing manipulation processes and recruitment strategies used by extremist organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaker emphasised the importance of <strong>civic proactivity <\/strong>and awareness of the role each individual plays in society.
