Who We Are

Helsinki España – Human Dimension

Helsinki España is a Spanish human rights organization established in 1992 to disseminate and promote the principles of the Helsinki Final Act of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Since then, it has been working through education, advocacy, and awareness-raising programs to contribute to the protection of human rights, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.

Recognized as a Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO) and declared to be of public utility by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior (registration no. 12,872), Helsinki España focuses on international cooperation, human rights education, and the empowerment of vulnerable populations, with a strong emphasis on youth. This status, regulated by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), guarantees transparency, effectiveness, and accountability.

In 2003, under the auspices of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and the OSCE, Helsinki España established the International University Centre of Peace Missions (IUCPM), aimed at training professionals with the competencies and skills required to work in peacebuilding and complex international contexts.

With over 30 years of experience, Helsinki España has trained thousands of young people and professionals from more than 70 countries, supported by its University Network, which gathers over 140 higher education institutions worldwide.

Our core values include diversity and inclusion, a comprehensive approach to human rights, strong alignment with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a clear international vocation, both through its partnerships with global organizations and through the diversity of its participants and volunteers.

“We train people who wish to participate in the challenge of building a world based on respect, tolerance and peace”
