On Friday, October 23rd, Helsinki España participated in conducting workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for several primary school classes at the Colegio Ramiro de Maeztu in Madrid, in collaboration with the volunteer organization AIESEC.
The primary objective of this initiative was to raise awareness among students about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, highlighting the major global challenges facing contemporary society. The workshops aimed to foster an understanding of the interdependence among the various goals, demonstrating how quality education, gender equality, the reduction of inequalities, and environmental protection are closely linked.
Furthermore, the sessions emphasized that achieving these goals does not depend solely on institutions and governments, but also on the daily decisions and actions of individual citizens. In this way, students were encouraged to reflect on the role each person plays in building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
Helsinki España expresses its gratitude to the AIESEC volunteers for the invitation to share in this educational experience, and particularly appreciates the recognition received for their work. Both organizations share a commitment to fostering youth leadership through practical experience and promoting high-quality, intercultural education. The values of Helsinki España and AIESEC are perfectly aligned in this regard; this event served as the practical component of the training and volunteer project, “Youth for Youth: Educating on Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals.”
Through this project, young volunteers are trained to become agents of change, bringing the knowledge they have acquired into classrooms and engaging with children and adolescents through workshops and participatory activities. This work strengthens the social commitment of the new generation and consolidates collaborative networks between educational and civil society organizations.
