Youth for Human Rights: Youth Debates about Human Rights

Objetive:

The objective of the project is to address processes of exclusion and the consequences of an increasingly globalized world, as well as young people’s disengagement from institutions and democracy, which can put peace in society at risk.

It carries out various activities with secondary school students, designed to promote and encourage learning, debate, and critical thinking. The project’s core pillars are training and awareness-raising on Human Rights and equality, as well as the promotion of social participation.

Project phases:

1. Four training workshops in:

• Human rights
• Gender equality
• Tolerance, non-discrimination and integration
• Civic coexistence

2. Guided visit to Reina Sofía Museum, where the impact of war and the importance of human rights will be analyzed with the students, by using art as a learning tool.

3. School Gymkhana consisting of rounds of debates and knowledge test in teams.

The various tests are on the following topics:

• “Strasbourg Session. Plenary of the European Parliament”. Methodology: Role-playing. Location: Seat of the European Institutions. Sala Europa Madrid.
• “The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union”. Methodology: Round of quick, dynamic questions and a final debate led. Location: Office of the Ombudsman.
• “For equality between women and men”. Methodology: Text analysis. Location: Madrid City Council.
• “Youth on the Move”. Methodology: Workshop and drafting of European initiatives. Location: INJUVE headquarters.
• “The Sakharov Prizes”. Methodology: Time trial. Teamwork and graphic questions. Location: Paseo de la Castellana.
• “Know Your Rights”. Methodology: Time Trial. Teamwork. Word Roll. Location: Headquarters of the International Youth Organization.
