Workshop on self-protection and defense against sexual violence

We are aware that security and integrity are matters of high priority, which is why we want to invite you to a self-protection and defense against sexual violence class intended for youth from 13 to 35 years old.

It will be held on Saturday December 17th from 15:30h to 19:30h at Plaza del Conde del Valle de Súchil, 10, 28015, Madrid, and it has a cost of 30 euros per person.

Theoretical as well as practical topics will be covered. The theoretical content will cover types of violence, how to ask for help and important legislations. In the practical section of the workshop, intervention tactics will be taught for different types of aggression, as well as persuasion through verbal tactics.

Helsinki España has hosted a civil-military cooperation course organized by OCHA, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. An activity organized by the Helsinki España association, the Ministry of Defense, and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For a week, 24 people of 15 different nationalities have been trained in l’Alfàs del Pi in the organization of civil-humanitarian coordination actions in emergency situations.

OCHA’s responsibilities in the aftermath of a disaster are, at the request of the affected country: to assess needs, forward humanitarian aid funding requests to other agencies, organize donor meetings and follow-up arrangements, monitor the status of contributions made in response to requests and send reports on events as they happen.

From the City Council of l’Alfàs del Pi, the Councilors for Cooperation and Volunteering, Isabel Muñoz, and for Residents, Martine Mertens, have highlighted the importance of hosting a course of these characteristics in l’Alfàs del Pi, in which experts in international humanitarian assistance in emergency situations. Both councilors attended the award ceremony with which this training course ended.

Numerous scholars have highlighted that the actions of mothers and fathers have a direct influence on their sons and daughters and vice versa, finding in most cases a lack of communication and understanding between the former and the latter, something that affects the emotional intelligence of both. That is why Helsinki Spain opens a new call for mothers and fathers dealing with the following topics:

• Emotional intelligence and how it can be integrated from home education.

• Why now and what are the challenges of the 21st century in terms of emotional intelligence.

• Pillars of education throughout life.

• Forms of expression as models for their learning in communication.

• Strategies and ways to educate in self-control and conflict resolution from a respectful education.

Objectives

Identify daily actions, language and routines used that motivate the distance between family members.

  • Learn to resolve conflicts to avoid instability in the family nucleus.
  • Provide fathers and mothers with the necessary knowledge to face difficult situations in order to achieve harmony in the family where the conflict unites all the members of the home.

On this occasion, we will have a presentation by Raquel Martínez González, a health psychologist with more than 20 years of experience in developing and training family members and teaching staff about adolescents at risk.

  • The orientation of her work is cognitive-behavioral, having complemented this training with a specialization in positive psychology and psychosomatic medicine.
  • In recent years she has dedicated herself in depth to the training and development of Emotional Intelligence both in the classroom and at home

We open the call for our awareness course aimed at teaching staff in which the following topics will be discussed:

  1. Explanation about the sex-gender system and its repercussions in the personal and in the social structure.
  2. The effect that this system of gender division has on the educational system.
  3. With everything collected, tools will be offered to promote positive social change in the classroom.

Objetives

  • Provide teaching staff with the necessary tools to identify inequalities in the educational field, and to develop a non-sexist education that provides values ​​of equality and contributes to overcoming discrimination and social prejudice.
  • Provide the necessary resources to carry out egalitarian educational practices in the classroom.

We will have Celia Garrido, who has previously collaborated with us in different formations with a gender perspective. Celia is a consultant, trainer and expert in gender equality and violence.

  • She was part of the project to prevent sexist violence in education “Beatings don’t just hurt”.
  • Designs and develops awareness, reflection and training workshops for different public and private entities.

The XXVI edition of REACT takes place in L’Alfàs del Pi

Faced with the current conflicts that threaten international peace, in L’Alfàs del Pi people from different corners of the world met with the aim of addressing the XXVI edition of REACT, Rapid Expert Assistance and Co-operation Teams, a training program of five weeks on peace processes and conflict prevention, organized by the Helsinki Spain Association, with the aim of improving the capacities of the participants in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts, as well as the protection of civilians in armed conflicts and, strengthen the competence and confidence of the members when dealing with risk and/or critical situations effectively, as would happen when working in peacekeeping missions.

With 26 editions of the course behind us, we have had the pleasure of having experts from international organizations, such as the United Nations, European Union, OSCE and NATO, as well as diplomatic military personnel, members of the International Committee of the Red Cross and other NGOs. humanitarian organizations, as well as independent consultants and staff from different international universities.

Until June 26, the program has been developed at the Social Centre Playa del Albir thanks to the collaboration of the Department of Cooperation and Volunteering of the City Council of L’Alfàs del Pi, where six of the seven modules based on training in conflict prevention were included and peacebuilding, international law, protection of civilians, current conflicts and threats to international peace and security, key actors and their contribution to international peace and security, and tools for sustainable peace.

The seventh and final module called HEAT, Hostile Environment Awareness Training, will take place in Los Ángeles de San Rafael, Segovia, from June 27 to July 1, thanks to which students will participate in simulations to learn how to deal with the risks associated and other critical or emergency situations during mission deployment, covering skills and competencies on how to act in the event of kidnapping, hostage taking and encounters with weapons, mines and explosives; going through the acquisition of knowledge on first aid in hostile environments and orientation and communication in the field; to driving an SUV and defending against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons.

In Spain, REACT is the only training course of these characteristics, having trained nearly 500 people throughout its 26 editions. The Helsinki Spain Association has worked under the conviction of the transforming power of education and the need to train people from all kinds of countries and situations in conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict, as the best instrument within our power to contribute to global peacebuilding efforts.
