On Monday, October 9, the conference on ‘Challenges and Threats to International Security: Building Critical Thinking from the University’ was successfully held. The event took place at CESEDEN as part of the initiative by the Spanish Ministry of Defense aimed at promoting understanding and the culture of defense.
During the conference, we had the presence of Jose Luis Pontijas Calderón, Puerto González Diez, and Colonel Ignacio Castro Torres, who addressed crucial topics related to international security, the impact of misinformation, and the challenges inherent in hybrid warfare. Their participation provided a valuable platform for the development of critical thinking and reflection among university students.
The event attracted more than 100 university students from the Community of Madrid, who showed a high level of commitment and interest in the topics presented. After the presentations, an extensive debate took place in which participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives and opinions on the challenges and threats to international security.

“Teenager’s mental health seminar for parents and teachers for the children who participate” is a seminar financed by Ayuntamiento de Madrid whose objective is for both parents and teachers to have the opportunity to understand the psychology behind the teenagers in their lives’ attitudes.
This seminar will be imparted by Raquel González Martínez, a clinic therapist as well as an expert teacher in emotion management in and outside the classroom.
The seminar will be via Zoom.
If you are interested in mental health throughout different teenage stages and the most common problems in that age; conflict and emotion management in and outside the classroom; or the opportunity to achieve the psychological tools needed to treat children in their las stage of school all throughout high school, you cannot miss this seminar.
The seminar will take place Monday 2nd October and Wednesday 4th October from 16:00h until 20:00h through zoom. It lasts approximately 8 hours, and it will take place in two sessions, 4h each. In these sessions, the therapist will be going through the different topics and the assistants will have the possibility to ask their doubts, therefore being a very interactive seminar.

“Challenges and Threats to International Security: Building Critical Thinking from the University” is an event funded by the General Secretariat for Defense Policy of the Ministry of Defense. Its objective is to enhance knowledge about current challenges and threats to international security, encourage analysis and critical thinking, and engage young people in key issues in today’s international security. The sessions will be led by representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Higher Center for National Defense Studies, the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies, and security experts.
If you’re interested in delving into the major global threats that jeopardize peace and international security, understanding the impact of disinformation on contemporary democracies through the use of social media, and learning about the risks associated with new hybrid warfare strategies, you shouldn’t miss this activity.
With a duration of approximately 5 hours, there will be three sessions led by experts, followed by one university debate session. The project focuses on fostering critical thinking to enhance the analytical and argumentative abilities of the participants. To achieve this, at the end of the event, different groups will be formed among the attendees to discuss issues previously raised during the event.
The event will take place on Monday, October 9th, from 08:30 AM to 02:00 PM at the Higher Center for National Defense Studies (Paseo de la Castellana, 61, 28046, Madrid).

This May 29th began in the facilities of the Environmental Education Center (CEA) Carabineros de l’Alfàs del Pi the REACT course, which is an international training program on peace process and conflict prevention, with the participation of 38 people from 22 different countries.
This program is organized by Helsinki España, which is an association that aims to train professionals from different fields interested in improving their knowledge in conflict prevention, crisis and post-conflict management, rehabilitation and development, as well as their practical skills for field work in international peace operations.
The inauguration of the course was attended by the acting councilors of Residents, Martine Mertens, and Cooperation and Volunteering, Isabel Muñoz, and the acting mayor of Tourism, Luis Miguel Morant, who visited the CEA Carabineros to welcome the various participants of the REACT course. An informal meeting in which they have been accompanied by the president of Helsinki Spain, María Jaén Barandiaran, and the general secretary of the organization, Ángela Suárez Jaimes.
The REACT course was created in 2003 with the objective of preparing professionals with diverse career paths interested in joining the Rapid Expert Assistance and Co-operation Teams (REACT) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). To date, the course has trained more than 500 people.
The course uses a variety of methodologies, such as presentations and lectures, discussions, group work, practical and advanced role-playing sessions, outdoor activities and simulation exercises. Over time REACT has been renewed to include all aspects related to conflict prevention and peacekeeping in the different contexts in which peace operations take place.
The training program is divided into five modules: ‘Conflict Analysis’, ‘Protection of Civilians’, ‘Challenges in Peacekeeping’, ‘Human Security and Complex Crimes’ and ‘HEAT’, the latter including simulations to learn how to deal with associated risks and other critical or emergency situations during mission deployment. As in the two previous editions, four of the five modules are taught in l’Alfàs del Pi.

Helsinki España will hold “One Europe for Youth,” an educational project aimed at promoting learning and discussion related to Human Rights and democratic participation, focused on reaching young university students aged 18 to 30 years old in the autonomous community of Madrid..
This project will launch on Thursday, March 2nd of 2023, from 8:30h to 14:30h in the seat of the European Parliament, Paseo de la Castellana, 46, 28046, Madrid.
The meeting will address both theoretical and practical matters. The contents of the theoretical activities will consist of training in the geopolitical current affairs of the European Union, democratic threats and risks, and European values. In addition, this will be complemented with practical sessions of intercollegiate discussions regarding topics previously addressed in the day.
